Health Supplements: Which are the Most Important to Take?
Which health supplements should you be taking? If you read the home page, you'll know that the healing philosophy of this entire site is to: Get the good stuff in, and get the bad stuff out. Detoxing is getting the bad stuff out. Eating healthy foods is getting the good stuff in. But healthy foods today are not enough to ensure that you are getting all of the proper nutrients that you need. Even if you eat all organic foods, (which contain way, way more nutrients per bite) you still won't get the same health effects as fruit/vegetables/meat from 100 years ago. You need health supplements. Which supplements? Make SURE that are your health supplements are natural. GNC has natural supplements, as does Swanson online and your local health food store, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc. Why get natural supplements? Because natural are absorbed often twice as much into your body, and are more effective once absorbed. Click for Free How to Detox E-Zine and Free E-Book Here are health supplements you should be taking daily and why. 1. Multi-vitamin. As with all of the following recommendations, be sure to find this at a health food store and not a grocery/convenience/discount department store. Health food stores will give you the natural vitamins. Find a multi-vitamin with minerals as well. Try to find one with numbers at 100% or above the RDA for most nutrients (not too far above, except the B vitamins can be high without issue - but then don't take an extra B complex). This way you be less likely to suffer from a deficiency of anything very important. 2. Omega 3. This is something that is very necessary and not included in your multi-vitamin. You should take an omega 3 capsule (fish oil/flax oil, etc) every day that you don't have a significant amount of wild-caught salmon or sardines, walnuts, flaxseeds, or grass-fed beef. We are certainly deficient in Omega 3 in America/industrialized nations and when you take them, you might find that you think better, you circulatory system will flow better, and you'll have less depression. Another great benefit is the prevention of three of the most prevalent cancers, breast, prostate, and colon. 3. Vitamin D. This is another area where you are very likely deficient unless you already supplement, or expose your skin to the sun regularly. Darker skin people are especially at risk for deficiency because they make Vitamin D from the sun much slower than pale skin folks (I used "folks," - I sound old). Be sure to use natural D3 rather than synthetic D2 (the kind found in milk and in vitamins not found at the health food store, which doesn't work nearly as well). I recommend 400-1000IU above what you already get in your multi-vitamin, unless you are regularly in the sun. 4. Probiotics. It is important to supplement with probiotics, especially if your tongue if not dark pink or red (see detox secrets and find #8) you have ever taken antibiotics (don't lie), or you have any digestive issues. If none of those things are the case, than take it anyway. In your digestive tract, good (beneficial) bacteria is constantly in a war with bad bacteria. Antibiotics will kill both kinds and often the bad bacteria is the first to re-colonize. Don't get your probiotics from yogurt because most of the time they pasteurize (heat up the yogurt to kill bacteria for a longer shelf life) and all of the beneficial bacteria that you want are gone anyway. The best kind are either refrigerated in your health food store, or come in pearl-style pills. Take one pill/pearl unless you have digestive issues, in which case take 2, 3, or 4. They won't hurt you at all. 5. Vitamins . This is not essential, but one of the great health supplements if you suffer from fatigue. Until you detox enough to get more energy, B vitamins can help you with just that. Take a B complex 50 and call me in the morning. 6. Livatone Plus. I take this because I have specific liver issues. However, if you have any chronic illness, I would recommend taking it because your liver if probably way over-burdened. It includes the precursors to glutathione, a very important amino acid/antioxidant that helps detox the liver, as well as milk thistle, B vitamins (no need to take a B complex if you take this), and more.
